Chris DelGado’s 2018 NFL Mock Draft (Part 1 (Picks 1-5) (version: 1.0)

#1 – Saquan Barkley

With the first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, The Cleveland Browns will select the Nittany Lion’s star running back Saquan Barkley. Most mock drafts currently have the Browns selecting their future quarterback. However, I think they will wait another year to get their quarterback. I think the Browns think that they can either hit big on a free agent quarterback such as Kirk Cousins or wait until next year to get a quarterback in order to give their young quarterback Deshone Kizer another chance and more time to develop.

#2 – Josh Rosen

Josh Rosen to the Giants has been rumored to happen for a while now, and I think that it will. The Giants like Rosen and Rosen likes the Giants: a match made in heaven. The Giants are also in need of a quarterback as their franchise quarterback Eli Manning continues to age.

#3 – Bradley Chubb

The Colts have had a glaring need over the past twenty year: defense. They seem to disregard this huge, glaring need year after year and draft an offensive skill position player. However, I think this is the year they will finally address their pass rushing. In wake of Jabaal Sheard having a breakout season, a pass rusher on the other side to free up Sheard from double teams is a neccessity. Chubb will be the Colts’ pick.

#4 – Josh Allen (Trade to the Cardinals)

I think the Cardinals will trade up for this pick since I think the Browns will wait a year before selecting their quarterback (as stated in the reasoning for Saquan Barkley at #1). The Cardinals have a clear interest for Josh Allen. Allen and Palmer are similar in arm strength, but the biggest difference between the two is the mobility. Allen will allow the Cardinal’s to get creative offensively since he can power through defenders like Cam Newton and Carson Wentz.

#5 – Baker Mayfield

With the 5th overall pick, I have the Denver Broncos selecting the 2017 Heisman winner Baker Mayfield out of the University of Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield started his career as a walk-on for Texas Tech, but has made himself into a star. This shows that Baker Mayfield has an elite work ethic, which debunks the Johnny Manziel comparisons: which are clearly inaccurate and silly. Baker Mayfield will attempt to fill the void Peyton Manning has left at quarterback the past couple of seasons.
